Another section of rock wall supporting the rail bed. The railroad hired a team from Italy that had previous experience building these in Europe.  Closer shot of the last section. The Palisades was cut on site from solid rock, assembled using no mortar or cement. And it has been in place for over 130 years.

Picture of the road bed. Just as you make the turn to the right, you can see the cap stones on one of the sections of rock wall. Rail siding called the Sherrod Loop that branched off from the main line leading into Pitkin.

The historical group for this site has also erected signage, is rebuilding structures, and also this water tower.

Special thanks to Pop for supplying his Ford Explorer for this little trek. And for his sense of adventure, which seems to match mine pretty well.
